The demand for residential Long-Term Care (LTC) will rapidly increase in the coming years due to the global ageing population. This will require a well-trained and skilled LTC workforce, with Directors of Nursing (DONs) playing a key role. This study highlights the barriers DONs face, identifies the learning and development supports they need, and provides key recommendations for the provision of education and training for DONs to enhance their ability to fulfil their role effectively.
