A new upskilling programme from IFS Skillnet, which supports workforce returners to secure jobs in the financial services sector, is seeking to recruit people for its next phase.
The Reactivate programme has successfully completed its first phase, with graduates celebrating their achievements at a ceremony on March 27th.
A recent report from the government’s Expert Group on Future Skills Needs (EGFSN) highlighted the urgent need for between 6,000 and 9,000 new recruits in the financial services industry by 2027. Reactivate directly addresses this challenge by providing upskilling and reskilling opportunities, ensuring returning professionals are equipped to fill these critical roles.
Donna Noonan, Network Manager, IFS Skillnet, said: “Without proactive measures, Ireland’s financial services industry faces an estimated skills gap of over 4,000 professionals. Reactivate directly responds to this challenge by equipping participants with the essential skills and confidence to re-enter the workforce. By aligning with the EGFSN’s recommendations to enhance the provision of upskilling and reskilling, Reactivate plays a crucial role in Ireland’s talent pipeline. Graduates of the programme are well positioned to fill in-demand roles, driving innovation and sustainability in financial services.”
Dave Flynn, Director of Business Networks, Skillnet Ireland, said: "At Skillnet Ireland, we are dedicated to building a highly skilled and resilient workforce that meets the evolving needs of Ireland’s economy. This programme is a strategic initiative, that not only supports individuals in re-entering the workforce but also strengthens the talent pipeline for the financial services sector. By investing in skills and fostering inclusive career pathways, we are driving sustainable growth and competitiveness, in one of Ireland’s most important industries."
Designed to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in financial services, Reactivate is tailored for individuals with prior professional experience, both within and outside the financial services sector, who have taken a career break. Through a combination of personalised training, coaching, and mentoring, participants gain expertise in key areas such as ESG and sustainable finance, IT, digital finance, data analytics, risk & compliance, soft skills, and professional development.
