Minister Humphreys launches Industry 4.0 Skillnet to future-proof construction, quarrying and manufacturing businesses

Minister for Social Protection, Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys T.D. joined Skillnet Ireland and Future Cast today in launching Industry 4.0 Skillnet, a new Skillnet Business Network focusing on developing leading-edge technology skills for the construction, quarry and manufacturing sectors.

With Industry 4.0, or ‘smart manufacturing’, transforming manufacturing and industrial processes, ensuring Irish businesses have the opportunity to upskill and are equipped to embrace more automated, interconnected models is essential to continued competitiveness and improved productivity or Irish businesses, and particularly SMEs.

Based at the W8 Centre in Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim, Industry 4.0 Skillnet will provide upskilling programmes to businesses in the construction, quarry and manufacturing sectors. Programmes are developed to meet business needs for “smart” automation and robotic processes including Robotic Programming, Fundamentals of IoT, 3D Printing Fundamentals and Building an AI model with Deep Learning.

Minister Heather Humphreys, T.D. welcomed today’s launch, saying: “The future of work and the impact of increased digitalization are vital considerations for every business throughout Ireland. Skillnet Ireland’s success in delivering business-led upskilling and development combined with Industry 4.0 Skillnet’s focus on the construction, quarry and manufacturing sectors will provide valuable support to businesses in these sectors, ensuring they’re prepared for the future and can continue to compete and grow.”

Industry 4.0 Skillnet Business Network has been developed by Future Cast at the W8 Complex in Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim. The first online programmes commence on May 27th, 2021.
